PS5 vs Xbox for GTA VI
Short version: both run it, nobody has benchmarked it, and the right answer is decided by boring practical questions, not console-war videos.
What's actually confirmed
- GTA VI launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, same day (Nov 19, 2026). verified
- Sony has "Plays Best On PlayStation 5" marketing. That's a marketing deal, not a benchmark. verified
- No PC version announced. verified
- Performance differences between consoles: unknown until launch-week technical analyses. unverified
The five questions that decide it
- Where are your friends? If a future GTA Online (VI) matters to you, platform = friend group. This outweighs everything else on this list.
- Do you already own a controller ecosystem / digital library? Switching platforms re-buys everything.
- Storage: base PS5 (825 GB) ≈ 667 GB usable; Series X (1 TB) ≈ 802 GB; Series S (512 GB) ≈ 364 GB. At the estimated install size, the Series S is tight. Check your fit with the Launch Readiness tool.
- Game Pass vs PS Plus: GTA VI will be a full-price purchase either way at launch — don't buy a console expecting it on a subscription service.
- Price vs risk: Series S is cheapest but lowest-spec; PS5 Pro is the highest-spec option if launch performance analyses end up mattering to you. The middle (PS5 / Series X) is the safe default.
